Wine: Third Major Source of Georgian Economy!

Georgia: The Origin of Wine!

Wine lovers have to thank Georgia a lot as it is the native; where the wine production has first began over 7000 years ago. Archaeological researches have proved that as early as 4000 BC in Georgia grape juice was being placed in underground clay jars to ferment during the winter.

Georgia is a land popular for its natural bounty, where there are over 500 species of grape; a greater diversity than anywhere else in the globe, with around 40 of these grape varieties are being used in commercial wine production.

The wine is the center of attraction of Georgian culture and tightly blended to their religious tradition. It is very common for families throughout Georgia to grow their own grapes and produce wine.

Feasting and hospitality are the true identities of Georgian culture, in which traditional banquets are presided over by a toastmaster, who proposes numerous toasts throughout the feast, and ensures that the wine flows liberally.

Georgia has exported wine to 53 countries in 2016, and earned $114 million revenue. The top five countries that imported Georgian wine in 2016 are listed below: Russia, Ukraine, China, Kazakhstan, and Poland. Georgia's Wine export
in 2016 was also increased to the European Union!
